On page 83 of John Flavel’s The Mystery of Providence, he mentions Socrates’ wife, Xanthippe. She has become somewhat of a legendeary figure. It is this legend that Flavel makes mention of. Legend has it that she was a mean, shrewd, and stern woman. Poems have even been written of her, like this one:
