Day One: That my husband will count on Jesus as his first and best friend.
“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friend, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.” John 15:13-15
Men seem to have a harder time making friends than women do, but they need them just as much. Our husbands need a friend who is more than just a golf buddy. They need a friend who is even closer than a brother. Jesus offers to be that friend to all who believe the gospel. It is a two-way relationship of deep intimacy and sacrificial love.
Jesus, thank you for all the ways you love my husband, including as a friend. I pray he would receive the gift of friendship from you today and grow in experiencing all that this means. I pray he would share his heart with you and hear you share yours. I pray the Scriptures would become alive to him as your “secret counsel”. I pray he would be eager to do all that you command as a gesture of loyalty to his first and best friend. You are the faithful one he can count on.
