Nine Books I’ve Enjoyed Reading

I don’t review books like I used to, but I still read a good deal. I’m one of those weird people that reads about fifteen books at a time. Occasionally I’ll be reading quite a few books that I’m really enjoying. This is one of those times. Here are __ of them that I’ve either just finished or I’m reading currently with great enjoyment.

  1. The Chris Farley Show. I loved Chris Farley growing up. I still remember where I was when I heard that he had died. This is a very sad story that really stirred up some thoughts dealing with my own soul-care practice.
  2. Shame Interrupted. I’ve been trying to read this book for awhile. I’ve tried quite a few times but never felt ready for it. Now I think I am and it has been really healing.
  3. The Storytelling God. Jared Wilson is a great writer. His journey through the parables of Jesus has been so enriching.
  4. First Ladies. Very interesting. I’m only about a third of the way through this. I’m up to Mary Todd Lincoln. For a history nerd like me this book is grand.
  5. Clapton. I love Eric Clapton. I really enjoyed hearing his story. I bought the biography of Pattie Boyd awhile back too so I’m interested to hear her side of their relationship. Happy to read of Clapton’s sobriety.
  6. The Soul of Baseball. One of the best books I’ve ever read. I want to be like Buck O’Neill when I grow up.
  7. A Week in the Life of a Roman Centurion. I think I’ll be reviewing this one for IVP in the coming days. But in the mean time it is such a fun read. I don’t know the accuracy of it because I’m not a history scholar of that era—but it is so informative.
  8. Unoffendable. I’ll be reviewing this one as well. I loved Brant Hansen’s morning show. I’m not sure if I’m totally tracking with him in this book but it’s been very helpful.
  9. Fool’s Talk. If Os Guinness writes a book you read it. If you can get it for free from IVP in exchange for a review  you request it. This one isn’t out yet and I’m only about 3 chapters in but it’s classic Os Guinness and I love it.

What books have you been reading with pleasure?

  1. Wow — diverse!
Right now, I’m reading Restoring All Things by Warren Cole Smith and John Stonestreet. I’ve just barely started it, but I’m a World Mag reader, so I’m pretty sure I’ll love it.

  2. That sounds like an interesting read. I’l have to check that out.
