Day 10: That our sufficiency would be from God
Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. (2 Corinthians 3:4-6 ESV)
We don’t have what it takes. Seriously. When you consider the depravity of humanity, the foolishness of the gospel, and our own inadequacies, we really do not have what it takes to do what God is calling us to do. But that isn’t where our confidence lies, is it? We have confidence “through Christ” and “toward God”. We are not sufficient in ourselves but because of Christ we have everything we need. We have Jesus. We have what it takes.
Father, help us to see that our sufficiency is in You and from You. In ourselves we acknowledge that we do not have the resources we need to accomplish your mission. If left up to us we’d shipwreck the whole thing. But we boldly believe that we are equipped by you with everything we need to be ministers of the new covenant. Thank you for this grand privilege. Help us be faithful to our calling and to rest on you for every ounce of our sufficiency.
