Pray For Your Church: 31 Day Challenge—Day Twenty-Six

Day 26: That we would not be idle

For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. (2 Thessalonians 3:11 ESV)

The folks at Thessalonica were so convinced of the imminence of second coming that they stopped working. Right theology wrongly applied can have terrible consequences. Though it shouldn’t, I wonder if at times the doctrine of eternal security can create in us a similar type of idleness. Idleness, and being a busybody, is clearly forbidden in Scripture. It’s a reflection of a heart that does not truly understand the implications of the second coming of Christ. An idle church is a dying church.

Show me a church which is not busy at work pushing back the darkness with the light of Jesus and I’ll show you a church that is bickering amongst themselves. In contrast show me a church that is pooling their resources to fall so in love with Jesus that it explodes into missions and I’ll show you a church that wouldn’t think of arguing about minor issues.

Father, thank you for involving us in your grand global purpose of filling the world with your glory and replacing all sin and unbelief with passionate worshippers. Give us a heart which bleeds for the things which fit this grand plan. Rescue us from idleness and from wrongly applying our theology. Keep us from checking out. Give us the endurance to spill our lives for the cause of Christ. Amen.
